computer geekiness, health, relocation

moving in again?

All Christmas stuff is put away and we got over the last batch of illnesses in time for the kids to start school last week. Colleen and Chris finished their antibiotics and Chris got over his skin infection (phew!).

Yesterday Ryan got sick. He’s had a temp for 2 days and he’s going to dr. today. I don’t feel great – hope I’m not coming down with it. Ironically my appt. for my migraines is Thursday so if I do get sick – good timing (as long as I’m not too sick to drive there!). Rog has been sick for 3 weeks (not in bed the whole time) and I’m trying to get him to the dr. It was not a bad time to be sick though as it’s the annual “no work” time at work – he hopes to have tons of work by next week as it looks like it’s piling up there to be assigned (he cleans as his own business the same office they assign work from).

What else? Yes, our older computer seems to have died – the one we got in 2000. I’m so glad we got this one (summer of 05) and managed to get everything transferred over, just about (it was acting up so I was worried and kept booting it for as long as it would stay booted and moved over the network). I tore it down and took downstairs to await someone having time to look at it that knows more than I do. I’m also getting my old computer back (the 1995 one) to set up for the kids downstairs.

After feeling temporarily very caught up after Christmas with everything neat and tidy, we brought like 30 boxes up here from the basement, garage, our old house, and Gayle’s. YIKES! I feel like I just moved in again. And there’s more coming. All the boxes from my mother’s have yet to come (17 huge rubbermaid bins, she says, plus massive amounts of bags), and also everything out of our attic at the other house, the shed, and probably 10-20 more boxes out of the main floor of the house over there.

I’m so glad we don’t have to do this again for YEARS!

going to do a few more dishes and maybe go lay down with Ryan for a while…..

love, dori

Thanks for all the comments! And important pierced ear question!

I will try and respond to each and every one soon. Let me just say it’s a pleasure to have so many varied and interesting friends on here. I enjoy reading your journals and even though I don’t often post I feel honored to have been added to all your friends lists.

🙂

Thanks for the snow comments!! I’m in Ohio. And yesterday we got like 6″ of snow! Just here, and in the immediate maybe 30 miles around us right by Lake Erie. People in Cleveland and west got nothing. It’s like that here in the NE Ohio snow belt. But it was early! And we had no boots here yet or hats, gloves, or mittens. They were at the other house. I went and got some last night, as much as I could find in the attic over there. But I’m still missing MY boots, and most of the gloves.

PIERCED EAR QUESTION. I got my ears pierced 3 years ago. I usually wear some small earrings all the time, though sometimes I take them out for a month or so at a time. I just recently wore good hypoallergenic ones for about 2 months. I took them out 3 days ago and put in some hoops because I was going to some meetings and was in the mood for a change. I took them out the same night, but had noticed the left one had actually fallen out before I realized it. Wed. and Thurs. I wore none. Last night my left ear lobe hole felt itchy – I scratched it before I realized it but then stopped and realized it felt like it had a bump and it hurt a little. So I put some rubbing alcohol on a pad and cleaned it off. It has continued to itch now for about 12 hours and I’ve put alcohol on it 3 times. I looked at it in the mirror after cleaning today and see there is like this little white bump poking through from behind after I cleaned the back. Does anyone have any idea what this is, where it came from, and will it just go away on its own? Should I avoid earrings for a long period of time? Or just a few days? I’m thinking one thing I should do is give all my earrings a good bath in rubbing alcohol – it’s been a long time since I did that. Also, should I put something else on my ear besides rubbing alcohol – should I put neosporin or something on it?

Thanks — dori

Old house pictures

I spent this morning taking some pictures of the house here as some moms on this moms group I’m on wanted to see it. They’re actually doing a video but I don’t know if I’ll have time to do that before we move. So I took a bunch of new pictures here

2020 (invalid link) will try and just post a few of the pictures from 2005 above

https://criscollrj.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=12 . I am a little aggravated though, with coppermine – I may eventually try and find a new picture site. I get aggravated because I named all the pictures about you can’t see the names and descriptions when you run the slideshow. What good is that? And I don’t know how to change the order either. Oh well…. sigh. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Yuck – cold. Drip. Sneeze. That’s all I’ll say about that.

Ryan is off now, and I had some lunch – leftover pork and potatoes and sauerkraut. I am going to go off and do the pantry. I must do that today. I did pack up the linen closet yesterday and did the dishes. Yeah me!

I just have to go to bank and then go grocery shopping. I was supposed to go with him to the bank after speech but I just realized I forgot to. I also have to pick up Chris’s pills. So I’ll have a busy time with Doreen! I think we’ll just go to Aldi’s.

Day four now of underwriting AGAIN – I have never waited this long before at one time. Last time it went through underwriting in 2 hours. The time before, 3 days. I may have to call them soon. There is absolutely nothing new on the web site of our account since Oct. 6.

I have to run now — i’ll probably be on a posting break for quite a while. I have too much to do and have been on the computer too much.

N-E-R-V-O-U-S

We found out we can’t use Rog’s mileage income for the loan, because it’s not taxed!! (They never send us a 1099 or anything!) So they’re trying to put nickels and dimes together between income and expenses to make our loan go through! It’s a difference of a few dollars of making or not making it!! Ugh!

I should know by tomorrow for sure. I’m so nervous.

Just praying.

I don’t think Chris has strep, he doesn’t seem that sick – but I’ll find that out tomorrow too. And Chris’s rash looks a lot better!

strep again?

We ended up taking Chris to the dr. to check on his rash he’s had since Saturday night. He said it was getting infected, and put him on antibiotics and told us to keep him home tomorrow. He also said he was unsure if it may have been caused by strep, since Colleen had it, and could not check his throat to look because Chris wouldn’t not open his mouth. So in 2 days we’ll know if it was strep, but he’ll be on antibiotics that will treat both strep and infected skin. He said if it is strep that could also cause the itchy rectum he’s been having too. Sigh.

I kind of don’t think he has strep as he doesn’t seem sick – but time will tell!

Now I just hope he doesn’t give it back to Colleen if it IS strep – that’s what happened in 99 and they passed it back and forth 3 times after each was done with the antibiotics….

strep—

I forgot to post that Colleen had strep all week. I am scared to death that Ryan and Chris will get it!! Chris and Colleen had it in ’99 and it was HORRIBLE! They gave it back and forth to each other 3 times.

But, it’s been 6 days since Colleen got sick and they show no sign. I pray they’re fine!!!

I don’t worry so much about Rog and I getting it, but of course I know it’s possible. I had it in 89 and it really didn’t hit me that hard at all. I have no tonsils, though – don’t know if that makes it more mild.

nuts-ola

hey -when I think it can’t get any more nuts – Chris is DONE with school, has swimmer’s ear (mild, though) AND is having his ABR sedation hearing test tomorrow.

Think of us if you will – I always get a little worried with sedation even though he’s had it numerous times, Ryan’s had it 2x and Rog has had it once or twice to….

thanks — more soon – dori, who is not breathing and just waiting for school to start so she can breathe, a LITTLE.
